Responsible for sourcing, negotiating, supplier selection, and contracting for the assigned portfolio. May be called upon to assist with categories beyond the primary assignment. Expected to foster a “single voice” mentality across all Ajinomoto Windsor North America locations, as well as support and enforce all established company policies.


  • Set strategic category direction, with clear path to tactical execution at the facility level.
  • Analyze and assess supply/demand fundamentals, supplier strengths and weaknesses, technology trends, and competitive factors as the framework for strategy and program development.
  • Develop and recommend innovative sourcing programs and purchasing techniques that consider the longer term strategy as well as the short term tactical needs. Focus on supply assurance, improved quality, decreasing costs, methods/approaches, and product innovation and renovation projects as the means to secure competitive advantage
  • Responsible for managing the commercial relationship with all portfolio suppliers, including price and contract negotiations, business development, supplier profiling, and vendor performance and appraisal. Works with key stakeholders to negotiate and set up new PORTFOLIO vendors as the business necessitates.
  • Using SRM principles, manage existing, and develop expanded, “strategic alliances” with key suppliers; providing the means to further develop proprietary positions in price, costs, and technology advancement.
  • Mitigate the impact of material price volatility on the cash flows and earnings of the Company, by developing, communicating, gaining approval and executing appropriate forward planning strategies.
  • Support new product launches by providing project management leadership related to PORTFOLIO in procurement's involvement in marketing driven projects.
  • Establish appropriate lot size and Economic Order Quantities to ensure uninterrupted product flow while managing inventory levels
  • Establish and be accountable for company budgets pertaining to the assigned commodity categories. Forecast, track, and communicate variances on a routine basis.
  • Ensure controls and compliance as appropriate and required by law and company policy.
  • Responsible for direction of ~$50-100 million in annual purchase activity. Manage 1 or more direct staff reports, and influence activities of factory plant purchasing/material managers.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Science, Materials or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • C.P.M. / C.P.S.M. beneficial.
  • 5 years purchasing experience in a packaged goods industry including experience in manufacturing environment, preferably food related.
  • Demonstrated experience in management of multi-site environment.
  • Background in supplier development and management of national contracts.
  • Advanced knowledge of strategic sourcing and negotiation skills.
  • Experienced in cross-functional teams and consensus building.
  • Must be able to direct complex multiple activities and projects, providing appropriate balance of personnel and other resources to meet deliverables in timely fashion.
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to utilize computer tools (spreadsheet, database mgmt., word processing) effectively.
