Position is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted and cost effective supply of materials and services in support of sales, marketing and manufacturing operations. Manage and develop staff personnel to provide enhanced job satisfaction and to ensure ethical conduct. Foster a “single voice” mentality across all Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc. North America locations. Support and enforce all established company policies.


  • Develop and mentor staff and plant purchasing personnel, including training, ethical conduct, personal development, evaluation and career planning as appropriate. Foster team approach to procurement function, balancing field and headquarters resources to achieve corporate objectives.
  • Manage all aspects of supplier relationships including the competitive bid process, supplier qualification, determination of supply requirements, and long term purchase planning.
  • Provide research, analysis and reporting of key material price trends, purchase price variance and total spend in support of management decision making requirements.
  • Coordinate cost standards for divisions, providing guidance and feedback to cost accounting and division purchasing managers.
  • Identify, evaluate and make recommendations for cost savings opportunities.
  • Initiate and support supplier, formula, component and SKU rationalization activity.
  • Initiate and/or lead projects designed to support a "best practices" approach to the procurement function; unifying Ajinomoto North America facilities and avoiding fragmented supply decisions.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Science, Materials or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Master’s degree (M.B.A.) and/or C.P.M. / C.P.S.M. beneficial.
  • 10 years purchasing experience in a packaged goods industry including experience in manufacturing environment, preferably food related.
  • Demonstrated experience in management of multiple staff environment.
  • Background in supplier development and management of large national contracts for capital, materials, ingredients and services.
  • In addition to thorough knowledge of current purchasing techniques, individual must possess a high level of communication and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to direct complex multiple activities and projects, providing appropriate balance of personnel and other resources to meet deliverables in timely fashion.

    • Written (spelling, grammar, structure, clarity)
    • Oral (concise, clear, relevant, organized)
  • Presentation (appropriate use of media, stage presence, organization, content)
  • Ability to utilize computer tools (spreadsheet, database mgmt., word processing) effectively.
